Apartment near campus: rent in exchange for some house sitting - summer 2025

I am a recently retired Tulane professor who lives uptown near the corner of St. Charles and Walnut Street on Audubon Park. I am looking for a female graduate student (or faculty or staff) aged 22 or older, preferably with at least basic Spanish, who... would be interested in living in our back apartment from June 1-August 15, 2025, rent-free, in return for the following arrangement.

Our 88-year-old housekeeper from El Salvador (who has lived with us for 45 years) lives in the main house with our friendly 8-year-old Labrador retriever. My husband and I will be traveling off and on over the summer, and we are looking for someone to spend nights in the main house with our housekeeper (in a private bedroom) when we are not in New Orleans. On the nights when we are in New Orleans, the tenant would return to the back apartment, which would be exclusively hers during these 2.5 months.

Our housekeeper remains in surprisingly good health and is very independent. However, I prefer to have someone else on the premises at night “in an abundance of caution.” Several students who have helped us with this arrangement in the past have not reported being woken in the middle of the night. And if there were a major incident (she fell or got sick), I would return to New Orleans.

Two references required (name, phone number, relationship to applicant).

For photos and full description of the apartment, see separate listing for apartment at 570 Walnut St for fall semester 2025.
